orthography

MODULE 2

Orthography explores buildings and forms from multiple perspectives, enhancing our understanding of three-dimensional spaces. Through isometric views, plans, and sections, we learned to analyze and represent spaces accurately. Precise measurements and geometrical tools were essential for visualizing spatial relationships, ensuring clarity in translating real-world structures into technical illustrations.

TOWER OF SHADOWS

As this module concluded, I analyzed the architectural form of Le Corbusier’s Tower of Shadows, an experimental structure designed to study solar movement and shading techniques. Located in Chandigarh, India, it demonstrates how architectural design can control sunlight, regulate temperatures, and create comfortable spaces even in hot climates. Through precisely positioned brise-soleil, concrete screens, and voids, Le Corbusier proved that it is possible to manipulate light and shadow while maintaining thermal comfort. The tower supports his thesis that sunlight can be controlled in all four corners of a building, allowing architects to play with light and achieve passive cooling.
